About Our Password Generator

Passwords are the first and most important line of defense for your online accounts — email, banking, social media, work tools, and everything else. Yet the majority of people still use weak or reused passwords. Common choices like "password123", "qwerty", or your pet's name are cracked by automated tools in seconds.

Our password generator creates cryptographically secure random passwords that would take even powerful computers millions of years to crack. You choose the length, character types, and options, and we do the rest — instantly, and entirely inside your browser.

How to Use the Password Generator

Generating a strong password takes a few seconds:

  1. Set the length — use the slider or type directly. We recommend 16 characters minimum for critical accounts (email, banking), and 12+ for everything else.
  2. Choose character types — enable uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols. Using all four is recommended for maximum strength.
  3. Optional: exclude similar or ambiguous characters — useful if you need to read or type the password manually, or if the target system has restrictions.
  4. Click "Generate Password" — your password appears instantly with a strength rating, entropy measurement, and estimated crack time.
  5. Copy and save — click the copy button, then paste the password into your password manager. Do not store it in a plain text file or notebook.

Why Use Our Password Generator

Many password generators exist online, but ours stands out for several important reasons:

  • Cryptographically secure. We use the browser's built-in crypto.getRandomValues() API — the same secure random number generator used by security professionals. Not Math.random(), which is predictable.
  • 100% offline and private. Passwords are generated in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, logged, or tracked. Once generated, the password exists only in your clipboard.
  • Strength transparency. See the entropy (in bits), strength rating, and estimated crack time for every password — so you understand exactly how strong it is.
  • Flexible length and character sets. From 4 to 128 characters, with optional exclusion of similar or ambiguous characters.
  • Free, no signup required. No ads interrupting your workflow, no email required, no limits on how many passwords you generate.

What Makes a Password Truly Strong?

Most people overestimate short, complicated passwords and underestimate long, simple ones. Here is what actually matters:

  • Length is king. A 16-character random password is exponentially stronger than an 8-character one, even if the 8-character one has more symbols. Every additional character multiplies the number of possible combinations.
  • Randomness matters more than pattern. "P@ssw0rd!" looks complex, but it follows a common substitution pattern that attackers know. Truly random characters from all sets are much safer.
  • Never reuse passwords. The most important rule. One password per account. Use a password manager (Bitwarden, 1Password, KeePass) to store them securely.
  • Avoid personal information. Names, birthdays, phone numbers, pet names, and addresses are the first things attackers try.
  • Enable two-factor authentication. Even the strongest password can be compromised by phishing. A second factor (authenticator app, hardware key) adds critical protection.

Password Security Best Practices

Beyond generating strong passwords, here are the habits that keep your accounts safe:

  • Use a password manager to store all your passwords securely
  • Never share passwords over email, SMS, or chat
  • Change passwords immediately if a service reports a breach
  • Use different passwords for banking, email, and everyday accounts
  • Enable two-factor authentication everywhere possible
  • Log out of shared devices and avoid saving passwords in public browsers

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this password generator really secure?

Yes. Our generator uses the browser's built-in cryptographically secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), which is the same standard used by security professionals. This is not the same as Math.random(), which is predictable and unsafe for passwords. Your generated password never leaves your device.

What makes a password strong?

A strong password is at least 12–16 characters long and combines uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Length is more important than complexity — a 16-character password made of random letters and numbers is stronger than an 8-character password with symbols. Our generator lets you use up to 128 characters for maximum security.

How often should I change my passwords?

Contrary to older advice, security experts no longer recommend changing passwords on a schedule unless there is a specific reason (like a data breach). Instead, use a strong, unique password for every account, and change it immediately if you suspect it has been compromised.

What is entropy and why does it matter?

Entropy measures the unpredictability of a password in bits. The higher the entropy, the harder it is to crack by brute force. A 12-character password with all character types has roughly 78 bits of entropy — considered strong. Our generator shows you the entropy and estimated crack time so you can choose the right balance of length and complexity.

Should I use the same password on multiple sites?

Never. Reusing passwords is one of the biggest security mistakes. If one site is breached, attackers will try the same credentials on banking, email, and social media sites. Always generate a unique password for every account, and use a password manager to keep track of them.

What does "Exclude similar characters" do?

This option removes characters that look alike, such as 0 (zero) and O (capital letter O), or 1 (one) and l (lowercase L) and I (capital I). It is useful when you need to type or read the password manually, since these characters are often confused.

What does "Exclude ambiguous symbols" do?

This removes symbols that can cause trouble in certain contexts — for example, { } [ ] ( ) / \ ' " ` ~ , ; : . < > are sometimes disallowed in URLs, database fields, or legacy systems. This option gives you a cleaner password that still has symbols, without the risk of rejection.

Can I trust this tool for banking and email passwords?

Yes. The passwords generated here are cryptographically strong and never leave your browser — no server, no logging, no tracking. Once generated, copy the password into your password manager and use it. For maximum security, use at least 16 characters with all four character types enabled.
